The franchise brochure tells you the investment range, the projected revenue, the support package. What it usually doesn’t tell you is what Tuesday afternoon actually looks like. This post is that missing piece — a realistic, unvarnished account of what owning a Maple Waffle Express franchise looks like day-to-day, once you’re past the launch phase and running normally.

9:00 AM — The Morning Check-In

The store doesn’t open until 11 AM, but the day starts at 9. The franchise owner’s morning routine — whether they’re physically present or remote — begins with checking the previous day’s numbers: total revenue, delivery orders vs. walk-in, average ticket size, any Zomato or Swiggy alerts. This takes 15 minutes with the Maple Waffle reporting dashboard.

The central kitchen delivery for the day — pre-measured batters, toppings, and branded packaging — arrives before 10:30. The store manager and 1–2 staff receive it, check quantities against the manifest, and begin the 30-minute setup process.

11:00 AM — Opening

For an Express format in a high-street location, the first 2 hours tend to be moderate. Lunch-adjacent customers, office workers on a dessert craving, the occasional family. The Zomato store opens simultaneously with the physical location — delivery orders start coming in almost immediately from customers who’ve bookmarked the store.

3:00 PM to 7:00 PM — The Evening Build

This is the transition window. Students finishing classes. Couples on evening walks. The deliberate dessert visit — someone who planned their day around coming here. This is also when the manager’s skill matters most: keeping wait times under 5 minutes when orders cluster, maintaining quality consistency on the 40th waffle of the day as on the 4th.

The franchise owner who’s established a good manager can be anywhere during this period — their other job, their family, another business meeting. A good Thursday evening in a well-chosen location might run ₹8,000–12,000 in revenue during this window alone.

10:00 PM to 2:00 AM — The Late Night

This is Maple Waffle’s signature window. The customers who arrive after 10 PM have specifically chosen to be here. They’re not passing by — they came with intent. This segment runs high average tickets (the late-night crowd tends to order more), generates strong Zomato ratings (grateful reviews from people who found a quality option when nothing else was open), and builds the fiercest loyalty.

The manager closes the kitchen at 2 AM, runs the cleaning protocol (fully documented and takes 25 minutes), and locks up. End-of-day reconciliation is automated through the POS system.

What the Franchise Owner’s Week Actually Looks Like

By month 4–6, a franchise owner with a capable manager spends roughly 1–2 hours per day on the business: morning check-in, occasional afternoon visit, one longer weekly review meeting with the manager covering numbers, staff performance, and any operational issues. Beyond that, the system runs.

This is what “semi-passive” actually looks like in practice. It requires work to build. Once built, it rewards consistency rather than constant presence. That’s the fundamental difference between a well-designed franchise and starting something from scratch.
