It is the most common question we hear at the counter: Biscoff or Nutella? For first-time customers choosing between the two most popular items on the menu, it is a genuinely difficult call. Both are exceptional. Both are bestsellers. Both will make you want to come back. Here is the honest comparison to help you choose.

The Nutella Waffle

The Nutella Nirvana is The Maple Waffle’s signature item. A fresh, crispy waffle topped with warm Nutella, sliced banana, crushed hazelnuts, and a dusting of cocoa powder. The Nutella is warm — not room temperature, not cold, but genuinely heated so it spreads and coats the waffle in a way that cold Nutella never does. The banana adds freshness and a natural sweetness that cuts through the richness of the chocolate-hazelnut spread. The crushed hazelnuts add crunch.

The Nutella waffle is a crowd-pleaser. There is almost nobody who does not enjoy it. If you are bringing someone for their first Maple Waffle experience, this is the default recommendation because it is reliably excellent and instantly understandable as a dessert.

The Lotus Biscoff Waffle

The Biscoff waffle is more complex. Lotus Biscoff spread — made from the Belgian Speculoos caramelised biscuits — has a flavour profile unlike anything else on the menu: caramelised brown sugar, cinnamon, a slight spice warmth, and a deep cookie richness. Topped with crushed Biscoff biscuits for crunch and a drizzle of white chocolate to balance the caramel intensity.

The Biscoff waffle rewards customers who have developed a palate for less obvious sweetness. It is not “sweet like chocolate” sweet — it is a more sophisticated, layered sweet that keeps changing as you eat it. First-time customers often have to try it twice to fully appreciate it. Regular customers almost universally rate it their favourite once they do.

The Data

Nutella wins on first-order frequency — it is the most ordered item by new customers. Biscoff wins on repeat-order frequency — among customers who have visited more than three times, Biscoff is the most frequently reordered item. This tells you something important: Nutella is the right first order, but Biscoff is what you will end up loving more.

Our Recommendation

First visit: Nutella Nirvana. You will not be disappointed. Second visit: Lotus Biscoff. Come with an open mind — it is different, and different is better once you understand it. Third visit onwards: you will have your own preference and this article will no longer be relevant to you.

If you are ordering for a group and cannot decide: get both. Split each one. This is actually the optimal strategy — you get the full range of what the menu offers at its best, and you will leave having understood exactly why both are bestsellers.

With a Milkshake

Nutella pairs best with Classic Chocolate Milkshake or Cold Coffee. Biscoff pairs best with Vanilla Milkshake — the clean vanilla lets the complexity of the Biscoff do all the work without competition. See our full waffle and milkshake combo guide for more pairing suggestions.
